Hinksey Heights Captain's Drive In 2017

We were the Hinksey Heights Golf  Club Captains Charity in 2016, and were invited to their Captain’s Drive In. We were very happy to come back, and sell more tickets for their raffle, as well as sticks which their members could place on the course to show where they thought first drive of this year’s captains would reach.

Selling Raffle tickets.

We were very pleased to accept a cheque for the amount their members had raised on our behalf during the year, at events like the Captain’s Day.

Wesley Memorial Church Garden Party in aid of Phab

After some rather mixed weather over the past month the sun shone on the Wesley Memorial Church annual garden party, with proceeds donated to Oxford Phab.
Members of the church, and of Oxford Phab swum and played games, and ate delicious cakes and scones, and drank many cups of tea and coffee. A beautiful summer day,  and we are very grateful to our hosts, and to those who baked cakes, and helped with serving.

Cowley Road Carnival 2016

Once again we are at Cowley Road Carnival, as last years day was successful despite the blustery weather.
DSC00363We arrived early to start setting up, in a slight drizzle.
DSC00364Here we are ready for the public.
DSC00367We have a monkey whose name is known only to a select few, and the public are invited to try to guess his (or her) name to win it for a very reasonable entry fee of 20p. Once again we are next to our friends from Oxford Spires Rotary.
DSC00368The Mayor of Oxford came past, and later stopped by for a chat.
Many people dropped by to purchase home made sweets, guess the name of the monkey, or chat and find out more about what we do.Luckily the drizzle has stopped and we had better weather for most of the afternoon, until the Carnival closed at 5pm.
DSC00375Shortly after we started to pack up the rain came on again, but we managed to get most things into shelter until we were able to fetch the minibus and load it to go home.

Hinksey Heights Golf Club Captains Charity Day.

Oxford Phab is the captain’s charity this year and we are  are here at the Captain’s Charity Day.
imageFor the Captain’s Charity Day all the players arrive in time for a simultaneous start, and the different team each start at a different tee.
DSC00195Many people generously contributed to the raffle, and we sold raffle tickets to the players before they left.

DJ Lee arrived and set up his disco.
DSC00211The players returned from their round of golf, the scores were calculated and the winners were announced.
DSC00212The weather cleared up a little and we enjoyed a chance to try putting, a bit of Foot Golf, the disco and barbecue.

Clubs came from all over the country – many had made banners, which were later judged in a Best Banner Competition.

A selection of the banners, plus the flag of the Midlands Region.

Entertainment at the Bandstand

While clubs were arriving from far and near there was plenty to keep them entertained.

No pictures of this actually happening as this was a hectic time, so this was taken after the rush had gone.

Please Donate to Oxford Phab at Heartbeat Hike 2016

Heartbeat Hike – which we have been participating in for many years – is at Wicksteed Park this year.
We will taking a group in our minibus, and a couple of cars, and members will be walking and helping on the checkpoint/reception area.
The club receives no funding except the money we raise ourselves, and our present priority is the expense of keeping our Minibus running so we can bring members to club on a Friday night and go on trips, like our recent holiday at Avon Tyrrell.

Cowley Road Carnival 2015

We had a stall at Cowley Road Carnival, where we sold home made sweets, and had games and a badge maker.
DSCN1921
We set up next to Oxford Spires Rotary – a great group of people.  Oxford Phab were one of the charities they supported in 2014.
DSCN1923We had publicity material, a badge making machine, home made sweets, lollipop tombola and a ‘Guess the name of the bear’ competition. Here we are – set up under our green gazebo before the public arrive.
DSCN1928And here is a quiet moment, blowing up Phab balloons to hand out – note that the gazebo is now white ! Thanks to Simon for bringing his at short notice.

We had some illustrious visitors:DSCN1927Miss Oxfordshire chatting to Kelly
DSCN1932The Mayor of Oxford visited our stall.
Overall we raised over £120, more people have heard of us and seen what we do, and enjoyed our sweets and games.
