As well as our normal club night chatting, with quite a bit of administration this week as the money for our meal out at Oxy next week, and for Mama Mia in November needed to be paid.
We have several games in the Phab cupboard, and it is great to have so much space to be able to play them in the Hall at Wesley Memorial Church. We had the indoor tennis out for these pictures.

Games Night at Banbury Phab
We had a great time at Banbury Phab, who had kindly invited us to their games evening. They had wide variety of games, from putting to seeing how many marbles you could spoon into an upside down flower pot in 30 seconds. Many of them had been made by their club leader, Barry, over the years, including his amazing switch game.
Bar skittles, also known as Devil among the tailors.
Getting marbles into a flowerpot is harder than you might think.
The marble maze requires patience and concentration – this shows a particularly tricky section of the maze.
They were also celebrating two birthdays, so we had birthday cake as well !
Thank you Banbury Phab !
Hinksey Heights Captain's Drive In 2017
We were the Hinksey Heights Golf Club Captains Charity in 2016, and were invited to their Captain’s Drive In. We were very happy to come back, and sell more tickets for their raffle, as well as sticks which their members could place on the course to show where they thought first drive of this year’s captains would reach.
We were very pleased to accept a cheque for the amount their members had raised on our behalf during the year, at events like the Captain’s Day.

Quiz Night
Once again Robin had gone to a great deal of trouble to prepare a quiz for us.
We divided into four teams and tackled the various parts of the quiz.
The team I was in were particularly fortunate, as we had “The Queen of the Wordsearch” in it. Despite our advantage in this section all teams were equally triumphant, and everyone shared the prize – a tub of chocolates.
Boccia – but not as we know it !
Normally our games of Boccia are pretty similar to anyone else’s, but this is something you don’t see in the Paralympics.
The red ball is on top of the white !
For comparison – this is how it should look
Normal Club with Boccia
Normal club -and hockey in the Hall
Our club night was enlivened by a new mini pool table, kindly donated by Tanya.
As well as our usual cups of tea, we played Hockey in the Hall.
We did not play the official Floorball rules, but members came in and picked up a stick and joined in !
Warning, the video above was taken whilst playing – do not watch if you get seasick !
This is how it looked as a spectator a little later.
We had a great time, and enjoyed making use of the space.

Sports Training Night
Adam, from the English Federation of Disability Sport came to give us an evening of sports training, kindly sponsored by Sainsburys.
We started by writing down what we hoped to get out of the evening.
After that Adam talked a little about the different ways that Disability Sport can be organised
with a test, involving matching captions to descriptions to see if we had been paying attention. Then it was time to get more active !
We played a game where we moved around the hall, going through, or touching, as many rings as we could.
We did several variants of this – here is one.
We also played a game where we divided into two teams. One was trying to get all the bean bags to match the colours of the hoops they were in, and the other team was trying to make sure the colours did not match. Some of the hoops were on chairs to be reachable from a wheelchair.
We played some variations on games of hockey, where the room was divided into areas, and players from each team were assigned an area they played in.
Above is one of the games in action. Green sticks are playing towards one goal, and yellow sticks towards the other.
One useful thing we learnt was to think about flexible ways the space and rules can be used. Here is a diagram of an alternative way of dividing up a playing area, with channels down the sides with players in them.
By the end of the evening we were feeling “Happy and tired”
Wesley Memorial Church Garden Party in aid of Phab
After some rather mixed weather over the past month the sun shone on the Wesley Memorial Church annual garden party, with proceeds donated to Oxford Phab.
Members of the church, and of Oxford Phab swum and played games, and ate delicious cakes and scones, and drank many cups of tea and coffee. A beautiful summer day, and we are very grateful to our hosts, and to those who baked cakes, and helped with serving.
